Since Derek has been too busy making hole-in-ones on par 4s (no doubt using this ball), there’s been some downtime here at 72stokes. I figured this would be the perfect time to recount my golf trip to Scotland last fall. I wanted to recount the experience while it was still fresh, and I remember every detail as if the trip had happened over six months ago.
In late August, I left on a Friday morning and finally made it into Edinburgh, Scotland about mid-morning on Saturday. In another post I’ll get into the mistakes I made travelling and what I could have done to save time and money. But let’s just say that leaving Raleigh, NC at 7 a.m. on one day and not getting to your destination until 1030 a.m. the next morning is a bit tiring.
After I picked up my rental car and a cell phone at the local mall, I headed to St. Andrews. Driving on the other side of the road wasn’t too much of a problem, but it did take a while to get used to driving on the other side of the car and getting through some of the traffic circles.
That afternoon I played the New Course, ironically named since it was built in the 1800′s. After some much needed rest I went back to St. Andrews on Sunday and played the Eden Course and the Jubilee. The Old Course is closed on Sundays, and I realized that due to the rest of my schedule I wouldn’t be able to try to get on the course.
On Monday I played Carnoustie, and Tuesday played the Old Course and the Portland Course at Royal Troon. Unfortunately it was a short trip and I had to head back home on Wednesday.
I’ll go into more detail about each day in a later post, and talk about some of the other non-golf related parts of the trip.
