You’ve probably heard of Casey Martin before. His lawsuit and eventual victory at the Supreme Court gave him the right to use a golf cart in PGA Tour competitions. It turned out to not make much of a difference as Martin lost his tour card and eventually became the golf coach at Oregon. He qualified for the Open last week and now will be making his first US Open appearance since 1998 (also at Olympic).
If you’re at all interested in Casey’s story, this is a great video. Martin is entertaining, engaging, and humble. Regardless of what you think of the Supreme Court’s ruling in his case, it’s hard not to pull for the guy.

They’re showcasing it as a cheaper alternative to their autonomous Priuses that could be used to move people around corporate campuses for example.
Google engineers have actually been using this system to travel between buildings at the Googleplex. Once the carts arrive, they can either drive the carts to the final destination themselves, or sit back and enjoy the ride while HAL the completely friendly and benevolent golf cart takes you to your meeting.
I kid, I kid! Apparently they’re playing the Women’s British Open this week (who knew?) and somebody decided that the one thing missing in this water hazard was a golf cart. Bada-bing bada-boom, problem solved.

I guess it’s where these guys are all planning on living when they retire?
90 miles of cart paths for 50,000 golf carts and only 16k people that play golf? That’s nuts.
If I do move, will I get kicked out of The Walking Golfers Society? Full video after the break:

That beautiful mugshot belongs to Eric Perez, who was charged last Saturday night with a DUI after being found driving a golf cart the wrong direction on a divided highway.
Perez blew a .25, although testing was probably unnecessary as driving a golf cart on a highway in the middle of the night should be sufficient evidence of being drunk. Police reported that his passengers(??!!) were returned home safely.
Surprisingly, DUI’s in golf carts aren’t that uncommon…
This video is a classic.
I shouldn’t be driving a vehicle of course. That’s why I’m driving a golf cart.
And here’s a guy that got a golf cart DUI in Peachtree City, GA. This woman managed ran over somebody while driving a golf cart under the influence.
JJ Hones even got herself kicked off the Stanford basketball team last year after getting a DUI while driving a golf cart around campus.
A quick search on google reveals that there’s plenty more where they came from.
So just remember next time you’re a little buzzed that driving a golf cart down the wrong way of a highway in the middle of the night will get you a DUI (or killed) just the same as if you were driving a car.

After doing a little bit of research (ie I looked at youtube for about 30 seconds), I found out that lots of guys have done similarly awesome things with golf carts.
This dude not only put a big engine in his, he pimped it out with some dubs and hydraulics.
And this one… well I’m not even sure what to say about it.
Who knew that any of this existed? And why haven’t I ever seen any of these golf carts at the local muni?
