September 2011

Atlanta Falcons kicker Matt Bryant thought he was just ordering some delicious sweet and sour chicken.  Little did he know that prior to dropping the food off at his front door, the delivery guy, 22-year old Kristian Vail, walked into his garage and helped himself to Bryant’s golf clubs.

Vail then traded the clubs for 80-ecstacy pills.  Police were able to track down the clubs, worth $3k, via serial numbers over the internet (I guess the guy tried to sell them?).  However, Bryant’s Scotty Cameron remains at large.

2011 PGA Tour winning balls

Titleist had yet another big year on Tour, including wins at the US Open (McIlroy), Tour Championship (Haas).  But while they may dwarf everybody else on tour, other brands picked up some big wins as well.  In particular I hadn’t realized that Taylormade  snagged 5 wins with the Penta this year.  Can anybody make a dent in Titleist’s numbers for 2012?

1. Titleist Pro V1x – 21 wins

2. Titleist Pro v1 – 6 wins

3. Tayormade Penta – 5 wins

4. Nike One Tour D – 3 wins

5.  Callaway Tour i(z) – 2 wins

6. Srixon Z-Star XV – 2 wins

7. Bridgestone B330s – 1 win

Hooray for Haas!

Congrats to Bill Haas for winning the Tour Championship and the Fedex cup yesterday after a 3 hole playoff with Hunter Mahan. Haas’s payday on Sunday ($11.4M) eclipsed his father’s career earnings!

It was great to see both of these guys playing well and really going for the win. After Haas’s up and down from the water for par on the 17th to extend the playoff, there was no way he was going to lose. You can check out the shot after the break:

Tiger hires DJ’s caddy

Tiger Woods

After failing to crack the 60′s for four days at the Tour Championship this past weekend, Dustin Johnson was told by his caddy, Joe LaCava that he was quitting in order to loop for none other than El Tigre himself.

Some might question the wisdom of leaving the bag of an up and coming young player for the #49 ranked Woods, but rumors are that LaCava was not a huge fan of Dustin Johnson’s relaxed attitude and practice regimen.  Could this be what Tiger needs in order to get kickstarted back up the rankings?

LPGA Grip It song

Check out LPGA player Tiffany Joh’s “Grip It” video.  You can check out more videos on her Youtube Channel, which I have to say is quite entertaining.  She even recorded a version of the Golf Boy’s “Oh oh oh” that doesn’t actually sound that bad.

Just remember, “she’s a lady on the street but a freak with a wedge”.

The worst scorecard in pro golf?

by Derek on September 19, 2011

in European Tour

Pai Feng Tsai Scorecard

I’m not sure that I’ve ever watched a European Senior Tour event (I don’t even think they’re televised in the US).  But apparently at least one person over on Golfwrx does, as he spotted what might be the worst scorecard in pro golf from this past weekend’s Casa Serena Open.

The astounding score of 52-over for after 3 days belongs to Pai-feng Tsai of Taiwan.  Tsai didn’t start Day 4.  I wonder why?  Speculation is that Tsai received a sponsors exemption due to a presumed relationship with Foxconn, a Taiwanese manufacturing company, who happened to be the main sponsor of the event.  Has anybody ever seen a worse scorecard at a professional event?

Long drive phenom Jamie Sadlowski will tee it up this afternoon at the Albertson’s Boise Open in his first ever Nationwide Tour start.

Sadlowski played in a 9-hole skins match on Monday with John Daly.  While he lost the match to Daly 7 to 2 (shooting even par), he did manage to drive a 359-yard par-4 with a 14* hybrid, which reportedly left Daly “flabbergasted”.

Sadlowski’s stated goal is to try to beat Jason Zuback’s record of 5 Re/Max long drive titles before transitioning into competitive golf.  He’ll have a shot at winning his 3rd title on Nov 4th in Nevada.
