It’s not that often that you see something that’s really different in the world of golf. Just about everything has been done before (yes, including white drivers). So when I came across Axis1 putters, I was surprised to see putter design that’s really different than anything else at the show.
I spoke to Luis Pedraza at the PGA Merchandise Show and he provided us with an overview of the technology behind the putter. The short version is that the unique design places the center of gravity directly on the face of the putter. This means that the putter has no tendency to twist during the stroke and stays perpendicular to the plane of the stroke.
It’s a very cool concept and is definitely different than anything else on the market. And t seemed very easy to putt with on the practice greens (but then again doesn’t everything?).
The model featured in the video is the Umbra, a mallet style putter that will be released at the end of March. The Eagle, a blade style putter, is currently available for purchase on their website.

What do you mean? “It’s not that often that you see something that’s really different in the world of golf.” You saw a really different shaft just the other day!
This is another intriguing find though that, although not cheap, is more within my budget. I can afford a high 200 hundred price tag for an entire club… especially one this innovative. Looks like they’re still trying to sign up dealers as i couldn’t find one within 250 miles of my zip code and that would include some major metropolitan areas… at least as far as a southern boy is concerned.
Keep the reports coming!
And say, is that YOUR video? It sounded a bit like you in the sound track.
Yes, it is my video. We’re shooting both still pictures and video at the booths around the show. Stay tuned for more videos today and tomorrow.
I use the Eagle for more than a year now. It’s a good-looker and helped to reduce my three-putting.
