Got to love #1. I bet Adidas loved that.
Dustin Johnson almost took out the camera guy on top of the tower today at the WGC event in Doral. If that guy wasn’t paying attention before, he is now.
My favorite slow-as-molasses but good humored golfer, Ben Crane, fired a final-round 63 to force a playoff with a red-hot Webb Simpson yesterday at the McGladrey Classic. Crane won on the 2nd hole when Simpson missed a short putt.
I’m surprised Crane was able to focus given that his wife is scheduled to deliver their 3rd child today… but talk about having a couple of really great days!
I’m sure you’ve heard all about Tiger’s by now. Amazingly, it didn’t involve Tiger throwing his wiener around a Perkins restaurant.
Instead a fan yelled out to Tiger while he was putting and threw his [hot dog] wiener on the green, apparently in homage to his hero(?). Now we have video of the incident after the jump so you too can say that you saw somebody throw a hot dog wiener at Tiger.
The answer is that it varies, but this info-graphic from CCA sheds a little bit of light on how lucrative professional golf endorsements can be. It seems interesting that Champions Tour players out-earn LPGA’ers. And of course they’re all dwarfed by the money tree that is the PGA Tour.
This afternoon Kevin Na picked up his first PGA Tour victory. The Human Rain Delay managed to avoid taking a 16 en-route to a final round 66 that took just approximately 5 hours and 6 minutes to play. For Na, that’s practically speed golf.
Titleist had yet another big year on Tour, including wins at the US Open (McIlroy), Tour Championship (Haas). But while they may dwarf everybody else on tour, other brands picked up some big wins as well. In particular I hadn’t realized that Taylormade snagged 5 wins with the Penta this year. Can anybody make a dent in Titleist’s numbers for 2012?
1. Titleist Pro V1x – 21 wins
2. Titleist Pro v1 – 6 wins
3. Tayormade Penta – 5 wins
4. Nike One Tour D – 3 wins
5. Callaway Tour i(z) – 2 wins
6. Srixon Z-Star XV – 2 wins
7. Bridgestone B330s – 1 win
Congrats to Bill Haas for winning the Tour Championship and the Fedex cup yesterday after a 3 hole playoff with Hunter Mahan. Haas’s payday on Sunday ($11.4M) eclipsed his father’s career earnings!
It was great to see both of these guys playing well and really going for the win. After Haas’s up and down from the water for par on the 17th to extend the playoff, there was no way he was going to lose. You can check out the shot after the break:
